Texas Woman Gets 5 Years In Prison For Voting While On Probation

A woman in Texas received a 5 year sentence on Wednesday for voting illegally in the 2016 election.

Crystal Mason, 43, was on a supervised release following a fraud conviction in 2011, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.  She and her ex husband pleaded guilty to inflating tax refunds that they sent to the IRS.

–> Texas law states that individuals convicted of felonies cannot vote when they are on supervised release. (Parole)

Mason is from Rendon, a city outside Fort Worth, TX and claims that she was never told that she was not allowed to vote.  The polling location she voted at did not see her name on the voter roll so they granted her a provisional ballot to use.  Not reading the document thoroughly, she signed an affidavit which stated that she was not an active felon.

She has been convicted and sentenced to 5 years.
