A proud Flat-Earther and self taught rocket builder, “Mad” Mike Hughes shot off into the sky in his homemade rocket on Saturday, rising to an astounding 1,875 feet off the ground. He even made it back in one piece!
The launch had originally been planed for November of 2017 but was delayed several times due to mechanical difficulties and disputes with the Bureau of Land Management.
“Mad” Mike Hughes, a 61 year old limo driver completed his launch successfully near Amboy, California. He reportedly had an extremely hard landing nearly 1500 feet away from his launch point. Hughes told Associated Press that he was completely fine after the launch, despite having a sore back.
“This thing wants to kill you 10 different ways,” he said. “This thing will kill you in a heartbeat.”
The 61 year old rocket man had been working on the rocket in his garage for months and used a converted mobile home as his launch ramp.
In the past Hughes managed to launch himself nearly 1,374 feet into the sky using another homemade rocket back in January of 2014, however there is no footage available of his previous launch.
